Short answer: if you want to change the incline while you walk, buy the Y3 (from €199.99): it has a 0–12% automatic incline you adjust with the remote, a brushless motor and a 150 kg user limit. The cheapest automatic incline is the Y1 at €169.99. If a fixed, gentle slope is enough, the Z3 (€109.99) and C1 (€99.99) have a 5% manual incline that you set with fold-out feet before you start.
Important: "5%" is a gradient, not an angle. A 5% incline is about 2.9°, and 12% is about 6.8°. Here's what that feels like.

Manual vs automatic incline: the key difference
Manual incline (Z3, C1, T7, Q8)
- Fixed angle: either flat or about 5%
- Set by hand with the machine stopped (fold-out feet on the Z3 and C1)
- No extra motor, so cheaper and lighter
- Best if you want the same gentle slope every session
Automatic incline (Y1, Y3)
- Adjustable from 0% to 12%
- Changed with the remote while you walk
- Lets you do intervals: flat warm-up, steep middle, flat cool-down
- Heavier machines (21–26 kg) that sit about 15 cm tall
The question to ask yourself is simple: do you want to change the slope during a session? If yes, only an automatic model will do. If you just want every walk to be a bit harder, a 5% manual incline gives you that for €60–100 less.
What 5%, 12% and 15% actually mean
Treadmill incline is quoted as a gradient: how many centimetres you rise for every metre you travel. It's the same system as the hill signs on Irish roads.
| Incline | Rise per metre | Angle (approx.) | Feels like |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5% | 5 cm | 2.9° | A gentle but noticeable hill; you'll feel it in your calves after 20 minutes |
| 12% | 12 cm | 6.8° | A steep hill walk; most people slow down to keep it comfortable |
| 15% | 15 cm | 8.5° | Very steep; the top setting on the Y5 |
Walking uphill raises your heart rate without having to go faster, which is why incline walking is popular with people who don't want to run. If you have joint, heart or balance concerns, check with your GP or physiotherapist before using a steep incline.

Who should pay extra for incline?
- Walkers who don't want to runIncline makes a walk harder without making it faster. A 5% manual slope is enough for most people.
- Hillwalkers training indoorsIf you're preparing for the Wicklow Way or a Dublin Mountains hike over a wet winter, the Y3's 12% gets closer to real hills.
- Interval fansChanging the slope mid-session needs automatic incline: the Y1 or Y3.
- Desk walkersUsually best on the flat. If your walking pad sits under a desk, see our under desk treadmill guide.
Incline walking pad FAQs
What is the best walking pad with incline in Ireland?
If you want to adjust the slope while walking, the Y3 (0–12% automatic, brushless, 150 kg, from €199.99). If a fixed 5% slope is enough, the Z3 (from €109.99) or the C1 (from €99.99).
Is 5% incline enough?
For most walkers, yes. A 5% slope is noticeably harder than walking on the flat. If you want hill-walking intensity, look at a 12% model like the Y3 or Y1.
Is 5% incline the same as 5 degrees?
No. 5% means a 5 cm rise per metre, which is about 2.9°. A 12% incline is about 6.8°.
Can I change the incline while walking?
Only on automatic models (Y1 and Y3), using the remote. On manual models (Z3, C1, T7, Q8) you set the incline with the machine stopped.
Which walking pad with incline and handle is available?
On 27 October 2026 the handrail versions of the Z3, C1, T7, Q2 Pro and Y3 were sold out. The Folding Q8 has a handrail console with a 5% incline and was in stock.
Are incline walking pads louder?
Not necessarily. The motor type matters more: the brushless Z3 and Y3 have lower claimed noise than the brushed Y1 and Q8.
